People owe $29.1 million in water rate arrears to the Water Authority of Fiji, and the Authority is urging customers to ensure their bills are paid on time so that water services can be provided on a daily basis.

This has been highlighted by WAF’s Chief Financial Officer Kavneel Prasad during WAF’s Annual Customer Forum held at the Holiday Inn today.

He says their budget from the government for a year is $259 million, and the revenue is $42 million, and people can see that their revenue is just 16 percent of the total budget provided by the government.

Prasad says Fiji has the lowest water bill, with 1,000 litres of water for only 15 cents.

He adds in the Central Division, $14.8 million is owed by the residential customers, followed by the commercial sector with $497,200, while institutional customers owe WAF $454,200.

The Chief Financial Officer is urging community and traditional leaders to create awareness on paying bills on time in the different areas they serve.
