Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua

Concerned people have made urgent calls to the Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua to check what it would take for the Police to effectively deal with the blatant selling of hard drugs like methamphetamine in Nadonumai, Lami.

People sent in their concerns during fijivillage Straight Talk With Vijay Narayan last night, and asked Tikoduadua to act as hard drugs is being openly sold day and night in front of children, women and men on a daily basis at the Nadonumai roundabout near a common driveway on the left.

They say vehicles keep coming in for pick ups and when they call the Police, it seems the people involved are contacted, as they disappear for a while, before reappearing to continue selling the drugs.

Tikoduadua says people can contact him if action is not being taken and his mobile number is 9904123.

He also says the Police Reset will also focus on the effective and efficient delivery of their service to the people.

Tikoduadua confirmed this morning that he has spoken to Police about these concerns raised on the show last night.

While responding to our questions, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu says they have been conducting raids on a house alleged to be a dwelling for illegal activities in Nadonumai, and have arrested individuals found to be bystanders in possession of illegal substances.

ACP Driu says Nadonumai is considered a red zone and police have carried out raids based on gathered information, arresting suspects throughout the community.

He emphasised that these efforts will continue.

He also says that a Crime Prevention Committee has been formed, focusing on ongoing operations aimed at combating drug-related activities in the area.

ACP Driu stressed the importance of community cooperation in providing information to aid their efforts, stating that they will persist until the community is free from harm.

He adds that arrests have been made on a weekly basis in Nadonumai and assured that the police will continue their operations, targeting drug dealers and conducting raids as needed.
