Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka says the General Secretary of the Methodist Church of Fiji should write to him if the church has a resolution that they are against Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya’s comments that the death penalty should be considered for those people caught with large quantities of drugs.

While speaking to the media during the Methodist Church Conference, Evangelism Secretary Reverend Iliesa Koroi rejected the calls to bring back the death penalty by Lynda Tabuya, saying that it would take us back to the dark ages.

Speaking to fijivillage News from Tonga, Rabuka says he is unaware of the church’s stand.

He says the Church General Secretary should write to him if there is a Methodist Church of Fiji Conference resolution regarding this matter.

Reverend Koroi also said the lack of family time and the church's failure to act has led to the increase in social issues such as drugs, teenage pregnancies, HIV, and street dwellers, in the country.

He says the church's negligence has resulted in its failure to confront these crises.

Reverend Koroi says more action is needed to combat these social issues.

He also highlighted that the government and the Vanua have exhausted their efforts in tackling these crises due to the church's negligence.

Reverend Koroi says people do not change because there is a lack of effectiveness among pastors.

He also called for urgent reforms regarding the national crises.
