Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and former Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has hit back at some human rights advocates and social media commentators calling his decision to dismiss former Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya as misogynistic.

While speaking to the media during his visit to the North, Rabuka says there is nothing misogynistic about what he has done.

He says it is strictly in accordance with the powers given to him by the Party and the Constitution of Fiji.

Rabuka says Tabuya’s case has been reported to the Party’s National Legal and Disciplinary Subcommittee, which has 21 days to respond if she will be expelled from the party or not.

Rabuka stresses that Tabuya’s expulsion from the party will be determined by the party itself.

He says the party's Management Committee and Executive Committee will hold a meeting today, and he will be joining this meeting through Zoom from Savusavu.

Rabuka says the Chairman or the Acting Chair of the National Disciplinary and Legal Subcommittee will also report on how they have progressed in the case.

When asked about Tabuya’s status in Parliament, the Prime Minister says Tabuya is still a Member of Parliament but not a member of Cabinet.
