Following concerns raised by many civil servants about delays in the payment of their salaries which was scheduled for today, the Ministry of Finance says all pay have been processed and money should be in their accounts now.

School teachers have told fijivillage News, they usually receive their pay by midday on Wednesday or Thursday.

A school teacher says they received a message from their head of school at about 4 this afternoon about their pay.

Another teacher says they should have at least received prior notice about any expected delay.

Permanent Secretary for Finance Permanent Secretary Shri Goundar says if anyone has not received it, they should receive it soon.

He say the reason for the delay is due to transitioning to its new payroll system after 40 years of using the old system.

Goundar says there have been slight delays in the exact timing of funds transfer to some of the established staff bank accounts.

The Permanent Secretary says majority of the civil servants had received their pay on time.

He confirms the Government has now successfully migrated to its new payroll system which will bring greater efficiency, enhanced controls and data security.

Goundar adds all the initial teething issues for the first pay of the year have been resolved and they assure that there will be no further inconvenience in the future.
