New FRU board and Chair to be appointed in the AGM in August

A new board of directors and a new Chairman will be appointed in the next Fiji Rugby Union Annual General Meeting which is expected to be held on the 13th of August 2024.

This was highlighted by Fiji Rugby Football Union Trust Board Interim Chair Peter Mazey while speaking on the new proposed governance structure for the FRU.

When asked if he is going to contest for the position again, Mazey says it is all up to the unions as the new structure is union-orientated.

He says in the new structure, the unions will nominate and they will vote for whoever they want to take up each position.

Mazey says there will be no longer Government or Prime Minister's nominees nor appointments by the World Rugby for the positions but the nominees from rugby unions in Fiji.

He says the new proposed governance structure was well received by the 26 unions that attended the Fiji Rugby Union Special General Meeting.

Mazey says with this new structure, everything will be in order again and they will be taking it to World Rugby next week.

He adds the important thing about all of this is that it was voted for by all of the members.

While explaining the structure, Mazey says that out of the structure, the new company will have Fiji Rugby Union Ltd which will be the managing company, and there will be the charity, which will be the watchdog of the whole proposed structure.

He further explains that the structure also shows the Fijian Drua's Counter Ruck Pte Ltd has 49 percent owenership of the share under the FRU Charity, and then there will be the Chief Executive Office followed by the Fijian Drua High Performance Unit.

Mazey says this structure will be commercial and move us forward to the next 20 to 30 years.
