Fiji Navy Commander, Commodore Humphrey Tawake

Fiji Navy Commander, Commodore Humphrey Tawake says they have faced so many challenges over the past few months as they are monitoring the transportation of illicit drugs around the country in the maritime areas, because most of the drugs are transported by sea.

While celebrating their 49th year of service in Fiji, Commodore Tawake says for drug cartels it is a commercial business and they will exhaust all means of transportation to take the drugs and get the proceeds for their interest.

He says they have their ships out at sea to deter all those trying to conduct illegal activities.

Tawake reiterates the challenges they face and says the Navy has the grit and resilience to get back on it’s two feet.

He adds he understands the spheres of power of what is happening in Fiji and around the world and people should be ready for the complex and uncertain future ahead.

When questioned on the investigation regarding the RFNS Puamau incident, he says they are still at the investigation stage and they will inform the public in due course when the investigations are completed.

Commodore Tawake says at times people and the media work in silos because of bureaucracy but they need to understand that they have a common purpose and goal at a national and regional level.
