Edward Nand and Salimoni Ligacere

Edward Nand and Salimoni Ligacere have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a visiting Fijian national from Canada, Narend Chand on 19th February 2023.

The two were sentenced by High Court Justice Siainiu Bull in the High Court this afternoon.

A minimum term of 18 years for Nand and 16 years for Ligacere has been set before a pardon can be considered.

It was earlier heard in court that Nand used his former girlfriend without her knowledge to obtain financial gains from Chand.

The court was also told that Nand spoke to Chand on several occasions in a female voice.

Chand was later badly beaten up and thrown under a bridge when he came to Fiji from Canada.

It was also heard in court that the search history on Nand’s phone included “how to get away with murder” and “can sniffer dogs detect blood in the rain”.

The court heard that Nand was also sending nude photos of his girlfriend to Chand without her knowledge.

In another case, Nand also allegedly murdered Afroz Khan whose body was found in Tailevu in December last year.

He is accused of striking Afroz Khan multiple times with a wheel spanner before throwing him into Waisere River in Tailevu.
