Maharaj apologises to Muslim community for confusion over Quran versions

Opposition Member, Alvick Maharaj has apologised to the Muslim community this morning regarding his statement that there are a lot of versions of the holy Quran.

Maharaj during the Constitution Amendment Bill on Tuesday stated that they are not saying no to the changing of Constitution and are not saying do not change the Constitution and gave an example that in Hinduism there are two versions of holy book Ramayana namely, Tulsidas Ramcharitmanas and Valmiki Ramayana, Christianity has Old Testament and New Testament while in Islam there are a lot of versions of Quran as well.

The Opposition MP said they are not saying that any particular book is perfect, it comes with a lifetime and when the lifetime ends, we need to change it.

Maharaj informed Parliament that some people have contacted him to correct him that there is just one version of the Quran.
