Head of the Vaccination Taskforce, Doctor Rachel Devi.

Head of the Vaccination Taskforce, Doctor Rachel Devi has confirmed that the Ministry of Health is now working with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to prepare for children aged 12 to 17 years in Fiji to be vaccinated for COVID-19.

Health Minister, Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete has confirmed that the Prime Minister is in negotiations with the US to get the Pfizer vaccine for the children aged 12 to 17 years.

Doctor Devi says the Pfizer vaccine which is being administered to children in countries like the US and the EU countries is the vaccine that is now being considered for Fiji. This will be done after the necessary approvals.

Doctor Devi says more details are expected to be revealed soon.

She says there are more than 110,000 students in schools aged between 12 to 17 years.

This is based on the individual student IDs in schools.

Doctor Devi says the amount of children to be vaccinated is expected to be more than that amount as some children may not be in the school system.

She says work is underway to determine that number as well. You can watch the fijivillage Straight Talk With Vijay Narayan on the facebook page, fijivillage at 7pm tonight. Doctor Rachel Devi will be the guest on the show and will speak on many issues in relation to COVID-19 vaccinations.
