Minister for Health, Doctor Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu

Minister for Health, Doctor Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu confirms that they have received an official complaint from the relatives of the 24-year-old woman who had passed away last month at Nadi Hospital.

The Ministry earlier said that they will not engage in any investigation if an official complaint is not lodged.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Lalabalavu says he has directed the team to investigate the death of the woman.

This is after the parents of the woman had raised concerns on Facebook regarding the death of her daughter.

The mother had alleged that it is due to negligence.

She posted that her daughter visited Nadi Hospital on the 13th of July after she suffered a sudden asthma attack.

The mother says when she was informed that her daughter was in critical condition, the doctors decided to transfer her daughter to the Lautoka Hospital, but there were alleged delays in transporting her to the hospital.

The Ministry earlier said the severely ill patient who sought care at Nadi Hospital on the 13th of July was suffering from severe bronchial asthma.

They say the patient was transferred to the Lautoka Hospital, where she sadly passed away the following day.

The Ministry reminded people that social media may not be the most effective platform for addressing complaints regarding the Ministry's services.

Lalabalavu says they will await the outcome of the investigation before commenting further.
