Heavy Rain Warning in force for whole of Fiji while Flood Warning for flood prone areas of Vanua Levu, and Western Viti Levu

A Heavy Rain Warning remains in force for the whole of Fiji Group, while a Flood Warning is now in force for flood prone areas adjacent to and downstream of major rivers of Vanua Levu, and Western Viti Levu from Sigatoka through Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki up to Korovou.

The Nadi Weather Office says a Flood Alert is now in force for the flood prone areas adjacent and downstream of Wainibuka, Wainimala, Waidina, Waimanu, Rewa and Navua Rivers.

They say a Flash Flood Warning remains in force for all flash flood prone areas, small streams and low lying areas of Vanua Levu and western Viti Levu covering from Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua to Rakiraki.

A Flash Flood Alert remains in force for all flash flood prone areas, small streams and low lying areas for the rest of Fiji.

The Nadi Weather Office says a Strong Wind Warning remains in force for Yasawa and Southwest Viti Levu Waters, Kadavu and Vatu-i-Ra Passages, Koro Sea, and Southern Lau Waters.

An active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain continues to affect the country.

Upon passing of this trough, possibly by later tomorrow, another trough of low pressure is expected to affect the country from early next week.

These systems are expected to continue to bring periods of rain, heavy at times, until next week.

Consequently, a Heavy Rain Warning remains in force for the whole of Fiji Group.

A flood warning is now in force for flood prone areas adjacent and downstream of major rivers of Vanua Levu, and Western Viti Levu from Sigatoka through Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki up to Korovou and a flood alert is now in force for flood prone areas adjacent to and downstream of Wainibuka, Wainimala, Waindina, Waimanu, Rewa and Navua Rivers.

Low-lying and flood-prone locations may experience flash floods as a result of localized heavy rainfall.

The ground is saturated with continuous rain from the past couple of days.

This increases the risk of major river flooding, flash flooding and also landslides.

A Flash Flood Alert remains in force for all flood-prone areas, small streams and low-lying areas of the Fiji Group. Meanwhile, a Strong Wind Warning remains in force for Yasawa and Southwest Viti Levu waters, Kadavu and Vatu-i-Ra Passages, Koro Seas, and Southern Lau Waters.

Rough seas with poor visibility in areas of of heavy rain expected.

The Nadi Weather Office says they will keep an eye on this weather phenomenon and update forecasts and warnings as necessary.
