Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka

Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu says all this going back and forth with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is not good for the country, and the government needs to address it.

However Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka stresses that the Judicial Services Commission is responsible for these matters and setting up a Tribunal to investigate allegations against the DPP is also not his responsibility.

Although it cost around $80,000 to deal with DPP, Christopher Pryde’s first tribunal, Rabuka says they have to deal with any allegations seriously.

But Seruiratu says he has said it so many times, the functions of the judicial system is something that is important for a democratic government.

Seruiratu says there should be a clear separation of powers.

He hopes that there will be minimal interference, and not an abuse of the processes as well.

The Leader of Opposition says that once a complaint is raised, that initiates the process that can lead to suspension and so forth. He says the DPP, Christopher Pryde has just come out of a suspension.

Seruiratu adds there has been a report done and then this other attempt is not good for the government and they need to address it.
