Food stalls and minibus stands in Suva have become key hotspots for drug activities, sparking urgent calls for action.

The Suva City Council is being pressed to crack down on these areas and work with police to transform the city into a clean, family-friendly and drug-free city.

This was highlighted by SCC Acting CEO Tevita Boseiwaqa when fijivillage News asked about the concerns raised by the member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Ioane Naivalurua yesterday.

Naivalurua stressed the importance of including drug-related issues in the council’s future reports, saying they cannot allow this situation to continue unchecked.

He says frequent drug raids do not mean the problem is being solved.

Naivalurua says instead, they reflect a serious ongoing issue that must be addressed.

Meanwhile, Boseiwaqa says SCC is reviewing its policies to address the issue effectively.

He says they really need to go on the ground and verify it.

He further says minibus stands and food stalls are some hot spots that have come to their attention from concerned Suva residents.

Boseiwaqa says SCC is reviewing it's policies and procedures to address these issues effectively, stressing the importance of holding business owners accountable and committing to making Suva a safer, drug-free city.

We are currently trying to get Police on this serious issue.
