Following the decommissioning of RFNS Puamau, Fiji has welcomed the Guardian-class patrol boat RFNS Timo, another gift from Australia.
The $18 million Navy vessel RFNS Puamau, which was also donated by Australia, was damaged beyond repair after running aground on a reef in Lau in June, just a month after its commissioning.
Minister for Defence Pio Tikoduadua says this remarkable addition to Fiji's maritime fleet strengthens the nation’s ability to safeguard its waters, protecting its natural resources, and upholding regional security.
He says this donation stands as a testament to the enduring partnership and shared commitment between Fiji and Australia.
Tikoduadua expressed gratitude to the Australian Vuvale for their invaluable support, adding that together, they are navigating towards a future of strengthened ties and mutual progress.
This is the third Guardian-class patrol boat delivered to Fiji, following the commissioning of RFNS Savenaca in 2020.
