Head of the Vaccination Task Force, Doctor Rachel Devi.

The Ministry of Health is anticipating more than 50% of the target adult population to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by the end of this month while they are also targeting to source approved vaccines for children aged between 12 to 17 years.

Head of the Vaccination Task Force, Doctor Rachel Devi says August will be a big month.

85% of the target population have received their first dose while 28.1% of Fijian adults are fully vaccinated. 498,680 people have received at least their first dose while 164,974 people are fully vaccinated.

Doctor Devi says with the unfortunate death of two children in the country, they are trying very hard to get the approved vaccines for children.

She says they have been exploring to bring Pfizer into the country for some time, and are hoping to get this as early as possible.

Children aged 12 to 17 years are being administered Pfizer in European Union countries, the US and Canada.

Doctor Devi says they are trying to get Pfizer using UNICEF support and through the COVAX facility however it depends on supply and availability.

Meanwhile, she also calls on people to maintain their COVID safe behaviour as we still have vulnerable people around.
