The government's commitment towards the development of the tourism industry in Vanua Levu is clear with the World Bank’s 10 year multi-phase programme valued at around USD$200 million that is aimed to enhance sustainable tourism.

Deputy Prime Minister, Manoa Kamikamica has stated this during the Vualiku Hotel and Resort groundbreaking ceremony.

Kamikamica says the programme focuses on creating economic growth, job opportunities, and investment by improving infrastructure and preserving the environment.

It will specifically fund better roads and upgraded airports to enhance accessibility and tourism experiences.

Kamikamica says Vanua Levu currently attracts only 4 percent of Fiji’s visitors compared to Nadi and the Yasawas, and this initiative seeks to unlock its untapped potential.

He adds that the $10 million investment that was created in the last 13 years by Vcorp Limited Directors, Vinesh Dayal and his wife Rachel and Yavusa Matasawa is finally taking shape with approved plans at hand.

Kamikamica says this project redefines landowner and business partnerships with direct and indirect benefits.

The project will feature a double-storey building with 40 rooms, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and additional recreational facilities. Kamikamica says the 500 square metres conference will also trend set Labasa, with the hope of attracting more national conferences.

He says there were no rooms left in Labasa during the Fiji Day Celebrations this year.

The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2025, and upon its completion, it will create approximately 50 employment opportunities for residents of the North.
