Energy Fiji Limited will re-apply for a review on EFL tariffs this year which means that they would like to increase electricity rates.

EFL Board Chairman Rokoseru Nabalarua says the last time EFL tariff was changed was in 2019, and Fiji has the cheapest tariff right now, compared to New Zealand and Australia, which has got a lot of technology.

He says the cost of living has increased, but unfortunately for them, they did not have the opportunity as their application was rejected about two years ago.

Nabalarua says they will make sure that whatever will be brought about will be done in a way that will soften the impact on everyone.

While speaking on the EFL’s transition to renewable energy, the Chairman says they will be spending about $2 billion in the next 4 years in developing about 165 megawatts of solar.

He says a tender is out for the development of about 21 megawatts in the western division, and there are sites they are looking at for hydro dam projects.

Nabalarua says they are also looking into other renewable resources like geothermal, wind and other emerging technologies to meet the growing population.
