Christmas has come early for Karoko, Nadroga Navosa and Mokani Villages, as they each received $16,000 in community grants from Digicel Fiji, totaling $48,000 across the three divisions.

This timely gift from the three divisions is set to transform lives, empowering thousands by addressing critical needs and fulfilling long-held dreams.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Secretary for Soqosoqo Vakamarama Nadroga Navosa, Kalesi Nuse says the $16,000 grant will go towards building a resource centre for over 5,000 women across 22 districts.

She says this grant has come at the right time, as the women have long been in need of a dedicated space.

She further says renting venues for meetings has been expensive, and now with this grant, they can build a permanent resource centre.

Nuse says this centre will serve as more than just a meeting place, it will be a safe space for women facing challenges, offering them counseling and the support they need before being referred to appropriate services.

The advisor for Mokani Youth Club, Joeli Vueti says the $16,000 grant will fund a solar fireplace project for the village, which has more than 800 people.

He says the project will provide safer lighting for the community, benefitting children who will now be able to study under proper lighting.

Vueti says the project will also create a safer environment for women who need to travel early or late to sell produce, reducing risks for them.

He further says they have considered accessibility for people with disabilities, ensuring they can attend and participate in family and community events.

Meanwhile, Digicel CEO Farid Mohammed says the overwhelming response from the villages underscores the vital need for community support.

He says Digicel’s commitment to empowering communities aligns with the spirit of giving, particularly during the Christmas season.

Mohammed adds that the company is excited to see how these projects will positively impact the villages and looks forward to seeing them grow and thrive in the future.
