6 children of Namuamua village in Namosi have been diagnosed with heart disease and further analysis is being carried out to determine what sort of treatment they require.

The diagnosis was done after 54 children received free heart screening at Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Screening Centre on Friday. More than 87 residents of the village were given free medical checkups.

The Director of Sai Prema Foundation, Sumeet Tappoo had earlier revealed that 53 children in Fiji who are diagnosed with congenital heart disease need surgery.

Tappoo says they are desperate to open South Pacific’s first-ever free children’s heart hospital as soon as possible after the equipment is installed by the medical engineers.

He says the arrival of the medical engineers was delayed due to COVID-19 however they are slowly completing quarantine now.

A bus was provided to transport the Namuamua villagers to Sai Sanjeevani Medical Centre and back to their village. The residents were also provided with lunch.
