35 iTaukei Land Trust Board tenants who have failed to settle their rent arrears will have their water and electricity disconnected as tltb has secured court orders.

TLTB Chief Executive Officer Solomone Nata reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to ensuring that iTaukei landowners receive their rightful lease payments by holding non-compliant tenants accountable.

Nata says as of 28 February, they have 248 cases currently before the courts, with 163 more in the process of having writs of summons filed.

He says additionally eight have already received court orders to vacate their properties.

He further emphasized that TLTB has intensified actions against rent arrears and is engaging with tenants who have opted for structured part-payment plans to clear their arrears and avoid legal action.

Nata says the Board is also reviewing re-entry options for tenants who have vacated their leased land or have been evading TLTB officers.

TLTB is urging all tenants with outstanding payments to settle their dues immediately to avoid legal consequences, including disconnection of essential services and eviction.

Nata says they are giving tenants a final opportunity to comply and landowners deserve fair compensation for the use of their land, and TLTB will take all necessary steps to ensure rent obligations are met.
