Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad says he is very pleased that the School Management Association is acutely aware of the drugs and discipline issues in schools, and the government is going to work very closely with the School Management Association regarding the drugs issue.
While speaking during the School Management Association of Fiji’s 9th Biennial Conference, Association President Govind Singh had said that pushing away of the school management and sidelining them is now giving rise to schools becoming centres for drugs, glue, violence, parental issues and all these negative influences.
Professor Prasad says the Coalition Government has taken the drug issue head on from last year, in the budget, in the setting up of the Narcotics Bureau, also in the reset of the police force.
He says obviously some of these processes and institutions are being set up, and rehabilitation centres are part of that.
