Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka

The nine former-FijiFirst and now independent Members of Parliament who have pledged their support for the Prime Minister have not signed any agreement but have written to the Speaker informing their decision.

These nine former-FijiFirst MPs include Mosese Bulitavu, Aliki Bia, Ratu Josaia Niudamu, Penioni Ravunawa, Ioane Naivalurua, Naisa Tuinaceva, Alipate Tuicolo, Taito Rokomatu and Viliame Naupoto.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says the nine MPs came to inform him last night that they will support him as the Prime Minister.

Rabuka says these MPs will continue to sit in the Opposition as independent members and they need to represent the people who have voted for them.

He says the amendment to the Constitution can be done as a result of their cooperation.

The Prime Minister further says if they will not be included in the Opposition caucus meeting, a separate facility must be provided for them and he will talk to the Speaker of the Parliament regarding this.

Independent MP, Mosese Bulitavu says it was his initiative to have the meeting with the Prime Minister along with the other eight MPs and to show their support for him during his term.

Bulitavu says they have made their decision to be independent and support the Prime Minister.

He says they have written to the Speaker of Parliament this morning on how they are going to support the Prime Minister on their participation in Parliament.
