Eid will be celebrated today as the moon was sighted last night.

This has been confirmed by the Fiji Muslim League.

Eid is celebrated after a month of fasting.

In his Eid message, Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka today shared warm Eid Mubarak greetings with the Muslim community in Fiji and all over the world as the sacred month of Ramadhan ends.

Rabuka says religious freedom is a cornerstone of our multi-cultural, multi-religious, multi-lingual nation and we treasure our diversity and social cohesion in Fiji.

He says Eid marks the end of the sacred month of Ramadhan also known as the “feast of breaking fast.”

Rabuka says the month of Ramadhan, in the Islamic calendar, is observed with fasting practiced daily from dawn to sunset.

He says it is a time of reflection, self-improvement and heightened devotion and worship.

The Prime Minister says we as a nation, must also take time to reflect on the true meaning Eid-Ul-Fitr.

He says it is time that we stand united and come together as one people in supporting one another as we rebuild our nation.

He says a fair share of families in our communities are facing hardship due to the recent flooding, or the loss of livelihoods.

Rabuka says it is our collective responsibility to give a helping hand in supporting one another during trying times.

He says we must continue to have faith in each other and reflect and practice the true purpose of Eid-Ul-Fitr where the interest of our most vulnerable families and communities must be paramount.

Rabuka adds Fiji citizens must be compassionate and caring for one another.
