Overview
Diabetes affects families, work, and the country's economic productivity. Symptoms may be overlooked, such as frequent urination and excessive thirst. Seeking help early is critical.
Types of Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes
This type can develop at any age but occurs most frequently in children and adolescents. The body produces very little or no insulin.
Type 2 Diabetes
More common in adults but rising in youth. The body doesn’t use insulin properly. Lifestyle changes are key, though medication may be needed over time.
Gestational Diabetes
High blood glucose during pregnancy. Usually disappears after birth, but increases the risk of type 2 diabetes for mother and child later in life.
Symptoms of Diabetes
Blurred Vision
May be caused by high blood sugar levels
Excessive Thirst
Dry mouth and constant thirst are common signs
Unintentional Weight Loss
Body burns muscle and fat for energy
Slow Healing Wounds
Cuts and sores may take longer to heal
Frequent Infections
High blood sugar can weaken the immune system
Tingling in Hands/Feet
Due to nerve damage (neuropathy)
Lack of Energy
Feeling weak or tired frequently
Frequent Urination
Kidneys trying to flush out excess sugar
