26 small businesses participated in the Business Assistance Fiji “HR Workshop for MSMEs – Managing Human Resource and Compliance Better” held at the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation Talanoa Room.

The workshop provided valuable insights into human resources policies, employment contracts, job descriptions, recruitment, compliance policies, wage regulations, FNPF compliance, and optimizing AI for HR management was facilitated by Watesoni Nata Jr. from Mediation Pacific.

Business Assistance Fiji’s Acting General Manager, Nitika Singh, reinforced their commitment to supporting MSMEs in their HR practices saying this was a valuable session, equipping business owners with essential knowledge to navigate employment regulations and improve workforce management.

Singh says at Business Assistance Fiji, they recognize that strong HR practices are key to business success, and they are committed to providing the right support to help MSMEs grow sustainably.

She says it was great to see businesses from various sectors engaging in discussions, learning, and sharing experiences to build a more compliant and productive work environment.

Local fashion designer, Mami Loogie of Hauz of ML says the workshop is an eye-opener for many of new business owners.

Loogie says they have learned a lot, especially about employment laws and how to properly manage their businesses.

The fashion designer says understanding key HR procedures such as the employment grievance procedure, disciplinary procedure, and code of conduct is essential for their growth.

Another participant, Heritage Kava owner Hannah Saunitoga from Ovalau in Levuka, emphasized the importance of HR compliance for businesses in rural maritime areas, saying the workshop has been vital to the growth and prosperity of their Kava export business.

Saunitoga says as a rural maritime business, it is crucial for them to comply with Fiji’s HR and employment laws to protect their workforce, who are also the local community in which they operate.

The workshop served as a platform for MSMEs to gain practical HR knowledge, ensuring they operate within legal frameworks while fostering a positive and compliant work culture.

As part of the session, Vitikart Product Manager, Shimneet Chand, presented on the opportunities available for MSMEs to expand their market reach by selling their products on the Vitikart platform.

Chand also highlighted Vitikart’s special offer allowing MSMEs to sign up for free, helping them leverage digital platforms for business growth.

BAF also works with Vodafone Fiji to link MSMEs to their VitiKart platform and MSMEs subscribing through BAF will also benefit from the reduced commission from 3 percent to 2 percent.

Business Assistance Fiji remains dedicated to empowering MSME’s with the necessary skills and tools to enhance operational efficiency and long-term sustainability together with its partner Business Link Pacific.
