The Directors of Mauri Professional Caregiving Institute hope to not only educate and train people to be able to look after the elderly and take care of their families, but to also give back to their communities from the money they earn.

While speaking to fijivillage News following the launch of the institute, Director Programme Agatha Ferei Furivai says she and her two sisters have started the business together because one of her sisters who is overseas challenged them in Fiji to organise themselves to get more people into professional caregiving as there is a demand.

Furivai says through the institute, they are trying to reach out to those who do not access to other learning centres.

The Institute Director hopes that those that go through the institute will not only think of themselves but will bless others and the money they earn will not be just for them but their community as well.

She says they need to finish the processes with the Fiji High Education Commission and could begin classes as early as next month.

Furivai says they are also following the processes put in place by the National Employment Centre.

She says people can reach them through their website mauripci.com that was also launched today.

The Institute’s Director Operations, Annie Gukisuva also launched the website of her separate business - 6th Sense Company Limited that specialises in event management and lovo catering.

While launching the institute and commending the three directors, Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Social Protection, Eseta Nadakuitavuki says they have not only successfully accomplished setting up the institution, but are partnering with the government in empowering women by providing them with training opportunities which can open career pathways, especially for those who wish to pursue employment as caregivers in the local and international international job markets.

She says their business venture will also support the work undertaken by the Ministry and that is towards the provision of quality, specialised care to senior citizens.
