62 villagers of Tavuya in Nabukelevu, Kadavu have been evacuated from the coast to further inland within the village after heavy swells swept through their homes.
Village Headman, Epeli Cokanasiga says they were evacuated with the assistance of Vunisea Police officers.
Cokanasiga says that are now sheltering in three houses that are located inland within the village.
He says that the village has a history of experiencing heavy swells and he is grateful that they are all working together to take necessary precaution to prevent any loss of lives.
Cokanasiga says evacuees are safe and they intend to remain inland as long as the heavy swell warning is in place.
