Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho

Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho has urged members of the public to continue with the positive momentum and support the work of police officers when voting resumes at the 22 polling venues on Saturday.

7,498 voters are yet to cast their vote.

Qiliho has also assured all Fijians that the Fiji Police Force will continue to closely monitor the security situation during the post-election period.

The Police Commissioner stated that while the counting of votes continues at the National Count Center, information received from officers deployed to the more than 1,000 polling stations during pre-polling and on Election Day have been positive.

Qiliho says that from the policing perspective, police operations were made easier as members of the public were very supportive of the work conducted by Election officials, Police officers and other stakeholders involved in the election process.

He has also highlighted that there were however three reports of alleged breaches against the Electoral Act that have been referred to FICAC for investigation.

Qiliho has also acknowledged the public, political party agents who were present at polling stations and the count centers for cooperating with police officers as it enabled officials and officers to provide a safe and conducive voting environment for all Fijians to cast their vote.
