Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Native Land Trust Board, Laisenia Qarase came from Korovou Prison again today to face charges in relation to alleged fraudulent conversion and abuse of office.
Qarase is charged with former NLTB General Manager, Kalivati Bakani and former NLTB Director Keni Dakuidreketi.
Dakuidreketi’s lawyer Ravi Singh asked High Court Judge Kumararatnam to summon TLTB to provide them with some documents to assist his client on this case.
The three are charged with four counts of fraudulent conversion and three counts of abuse of office.
It is alleged that the three were involved in having caused or fraudulently applied the Extinct Mataqali Funds in the sum of $3.44 million to Vanua Development Corporation Limited and later on to Pacific Connex Limited, contrary to the purposes and role of the NLTB and also contrary to the purpose of Vanua Development Corporation Limited.
The case has been adjourned to 26th June.
