Talks are underway between the Government and the people of Votua in Ba in relation to the Amex Resources exploration works in the Ba River.
The drilling and exploration works being carried out by Amex Resources Limited sees black sand containing iron oxide being tested and iron extracted from it.
According to the company, their Ba Delta Iron Sands Project at the mouth of the Ba River test results show that a good quality of magnetite concentrate could be produced with 58% iron content.
The office of the District Officer in Ba said talks are being held with the village of Votua for them to understand the importance of the exploration works and the rites they hold as the Qoliqoli owners.
The office added that this is the first time ever that such works are being done in the small town of Ba and a lot of economic return is expected.
Drilling work at the mouth of the Ba River by an Australian based company has seen the first sample shipment of iron being shipped off to China.
Once potential buyers have been identified, the license is expected to be handed over to a mining company to start mining.
