Fiji soccer team stamps its mark

The Fiji soccer team has stamped its mark as the team to beat in the Pacific Games as they beat PNG 2-0 to top their pool.

Fiji's goals were scored by Avinesh Swarmy and Malakai Kainahewe.

Fiji women’s soccer team also topped their pool after beating Cook Islands 1-0 with the goal coming from Stella Naiavalulevu.

Meanwhile, all of the big names in Team Fiji for the Athletics competition will be in action this evening as the heat of the track events will take place in the Pacific Games.

Leading the onslaught in the 100 meter heat is Sprint King, Banuve Tabakaucoro who is trying to break Jone Delai's 10.34 seconds record.

Also in the 100 meters is Lepani Naivalu while Elenoa Sailosi and Sisilia Seavula will be running for the girls division.

In the 800 meters, Fiji's hope is on Varasiko Toge.

In the women's triple jump, Suliano Gusuivalu is Fiji's bet while young Nadarivatu lass, Sereima Liku will be taking part in the 5000 meter.

Five gold medals are up for grabs in Athletics today in the Pacific games.

The Mens Shot put final and Womens triple jump starts at 5.30pm, Womens Discuss final is at 7.15pm, the Mens 3000 steeplechase will start at 7.20pm and Womens 5,000 meters final at 7.50pm.

Looking at the medal tally, New Caledonia maintains the first spot on the medal tally with 66 gold, 51 silver and 23 bronze while Tahiti is second with 29 gold, 20 silver and 17 bronze.

Fiji is third with 13 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze.
