As excitement builds up for the race that stops a nation, four‑year‑old colt Yucatan has been dubbed as a very firm favourite for the Lexus Melbourne Cup.
Grants Betting Limited General Manager Vijendra Sundar says that many have come in to place their bets, most of which have been for Yucatan and they expect more bets to be placed today.
Sundar says other horses close up behind Yucatan in the big‑race betting market include Rekindling, Magic Circle, Cross Counter, Muntahaa, Best Solution, Marmelo, A Prince Of Arran and Nakeeta.
A whopping $AUD7.3 million, is what is at stake at this year’s Melbourne Cup up from $AUD6.25 million last year.
The Melbourne Cup will begin at 5pm today.
