2018 Ba Zone champions Xavier College will be banking on their star high jumper, Shawntell Lockington to bag gold in the Intermediate Girls highump at the Coca-Cola Games next week.
The Xavier College student is currently in Gold Coast, representing Fiji in Women’s High Jump in the Commonwealth Games.
Lockington failed to medal in the Women’s High Jump this afternoon and finished last with a jump 1.60m.
Shawntell Lockington’s mother, Elenoa Lockington says Shawntell has been preparing well and she has what it takes to compete amongst the best.
With Coca-Cola Games coming up next week, Lockington will be the one beat as the 16-year-old holds the national record with a jump of 1.71 meters.
She won the gold medal with that record jump in the Mini Pacific Games in Vanuatu last year.
The year 12 student from Nasalia village in Kadavu also broke a 32-year-old record in the junior girls high jump in last year’s Coca-Cola Games.
Lockington jumped 1.66 metres while the old record was 1.62 metres set way back in 1985.
Meanwhile, Xavier College will be fielding more than 55 athletes to the Coca-Cola Games which will be held next week Thursday to Saturday at the ANZ Stadium.
