Brazil soccer coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has described their 7‑1 FIFA World Cup semi-final loss to Germany as “the worst day of his life”, and said it was his responsibility.
The hosts were 5-0 down by half‑time as Germany reached the final in emphatic style.
Scolari said that he will be remembered as the coach to lose 7-1 but he knew that risk when taking up the coaching job.
He added that it was his choice on the line-up and the tactics used by the players.
Scolari described the result, which surpassed the 3-0 defeat by France in the 1998 final as Brazil’s heaviest World Cup loss, as “catastrophic”.
This is the first time for a team to score seven goals in a World Cup semi-final, and the biggest defeat in one of these games since West Germany beat Austria 6-1 in 1954.
Germany will now meet Argentina or the Netherlands in the final after an unbelievable performance in which striker Miroslav Klose became the tournament's highest scorer of all time with his 16th World Cup goal.
Netherlands will take on Argentina at 8am tomorrow.
