Melbourne Storm fullback Billy Slater has warned his Melbourne teammates they cannot afford to give the North Queensland Cowboys an inch in the NRL grand final after a wasteful display against the Brisbane Broncos.
The Cowboys go into the Sunday premiership decider as massive underdogs but have already proven themselves after upset wins over Cronulla, Parramatta and Sydney Roosters during the finals.
Despite missing key playmaker Johnathan Thurston, the Cowboys have simply strangled their opposition out of the contest, mainly due to the masterful control of playmaker Michael Morgan.
Slater said they cannot afford to allow the Cowboys to dictate the game on Sunday.
The Cowboys will meet Melbourne Storm at 8.15pm Sunday in the NRL Grand final.
