A huge defensive effort saw the Waratahs hand the Hurricanes their first defeat 29-24 last night in Wellington and finally reignite their title defence.
Hurricanes captain Conrad Smith said that poor defence cost them their first loss in eight Super Rugby matches.
In other matches, Queensland Reds ended a six match losing streak by beating the Cheetahs 17‑18, Crusaders lost to Chiefs 26- 9, Rebels defeated the Brumbies 13- 8, while the Stormers disappointed the Western Force 13-6 and the Bulls moved back to the top of the South African Super Rugby conference after beating the Sharks 10‑17.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders held off a second half charge to beat the Blues with a 30‑24 and earn their sixth victory from eight matches.
