Vodafone Fiji Bati wing, Sisa Waqa has shared his humble life to encourage talented young players who have wasted their opportunities in achieving their dream.
Waqa said after signing a deal with the Melbourne Storm that he was the only NRL player earning less than $100,000 Australian dollars and was getting $75,000 Australian as a first grader.
The Daily Telegraph said this has led him to make a decision to sign his new contract with the Canberra Raiders.
Waqa who always dedicates his games to his brothers who are in jail said he would dodge the life of crime and encourage those who have gone into the wrong path.
With the support of Melbourne welfare managers and his wife Luisa, Waqa’s monthly pay was divided by the club so that he at least had enough to pay for rent, food and the electricity bills.
Had they not intervened, Waqa would not have been able to afford the bare essentials.
The 26-year-old who grew up in Nadera said with all the crime, he never dreamed of getting an NRL contract, winning a premiership and playing with Cooper Cronk, Billy Slater and Cameron Smith.
