Melbourne Storm has picked up where they left off last season, starting their title defence with a 36‑18 victory over the new‑look Canterbury Bulldogs in Perth last night.
No Cooper Cronk, no Billy Slater, no Tohu Harris and no Jordan McLean from last year's premiership win for Storm.
But not even the omission of the four internationals could change the winning ways of Craig Bellamy's men, who made it 14 wins on the trot in the opening game of the season.
Fiji Bati winger Suliasi Vunivalu scored a try to help the Storm last night.
Meanwhile in other matches, a stunning late try to Corey Thompson and sideline conversion from Tui Lolohea helped the Wests Tigers to a thrilling and hard‑earned 10‑8 upset win over the Sydney Roosters while the freewheeling Warriors have broken a 22‑year drought in Western Australia after defeating South Sydney Rabbitohs 32‑20.
Today, the Panthers will take on the Eels at 5.10pm while the Titans will face the Raiders at 7.30pm.
