Vodafone Fiji 7s players who won the Gold Coast 7s last month have received the $20,000 voluntary payment made by Digicel Fiji.
Reliable sources have confirmed to Fijivillage that each player received 1,666 dollars over the weekend.
Digicel Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Darren McLean confirmed in a statement last week that he made the payment of $20,000 to a players’ representative and they will not reveal the identity of the person as it would compromise that person’s position.
McLean said that this has nothing to do with the FRU as they are making a no strings attached payment directly to the players.
Meanwhile Fiji Rugby Union’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Sale Sorovaki said they will not comment on the issue as the FRU has not received the money from Digicel.
When Fijivillage posed the question on when will the players receive their bonus payments from FRU, Sorovaki said all questions regarding the bonus payments should be forwarded to FRU’s Finance Manager.
Several calls made to the FRU’s Finance Manager remain unanswered.
