Fiji born, Gateshead‑based heavyweight boxer Jone TK Volau who serves as a member of the British Armed Forces has caused a stir in Germany defeating the unbeaten, Burak Sahin.
Volau is originally from Fiji but is now residing in the UK.
This is just his sixth professional bout and he was the heavy under dog, given that Sahin was 11‑0 going in and had more knockouts on his record than Volau had fights.
Showing his warrior spirit, the 33‑year‑old beat the odds to come out on top, making a big statement against a hotly‑tipped young heavyweight.
Reflecting on the bout, Volau says that it was a good tough fight but they worked so hard in the gym for it and he was not going over there just to roll over, like most journeymen do.
The bout took place on Saturday night on the undercard of Paul Smith’s unsuccessful world title challenge against Tyron Zeuge, with Volau taking Sahin out in the third round.
Volau was given the chance to prove himself in the professional ranks of boxing joining a host of top North East talent signed to management deals with the Gateshead‑based team.
