The Fiji Basketball Association received a boost today after the University of the South Pacific decided to provide accommodation to the teams participating in the FIBA Oceania Under 19 Basketball Championship.
While signing the MOU this morning, USP Vice Chancellor Professor Rajesh Chandra said being involved in anything regional is important to the university.
Chandra said it’s also important for the university to engage in this tournament as the participants are 19-year olds and may want to join the university to pursue their studies.
Fiji Basketball President Major-General Ioane Naivalurua said he is pleased with USP coming on board and providing accommodation to the teams.
Australia and Guam will be arriving in the country today with the FIBA Oceania Basketball tournament kicking off next Monday.
The teams taking part are Australia, New Zealand, Guam, New Caledonia, Samoa, American Samoa, PNG, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Tahiti.
