The UFC is expected to come down hard on the fighters and their teams who engaged in a post bout brawl in Las Vegas.
UFC President Dana White said “these guys are in big trouble" and "it's going to be ugly," after Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor were involved in the scuffle.
White says Khabib had the opportunity to walk out of that place a champion, instead of flying over the cage and doing the things that he did.
The brawl erupted when Khabib hurdled over the octagon cage and fought with McGregor's taunting cornermen in the immediate wake of his defeat of the Irishman by submission in the fourth round of their UFC lightweight title fight.
As Khabib came to blows with the cornermen his teammates ambushed McGregor in the octagon. White said three of Khabib's team were detained by police, but were released after McGregor refused to press charges.
Khabib’s US$2 million purse was withheld, and he could face a hefty fine along with a lengthy suspension. His lightweight title could also be stripped if his actions result in a significant suspension.
McGregor's US$3m purse was not withheld after commission officials examined video footage and determined his side had done nothing wrong.
