The Vodafone Fijian Under 20 Head Coach, Kele Leawere is confident that team has gone through a lot of work together and is now ready to finally put to play everything they have been working on for their first match of the Oceania U20 Championship against New Zealand Under 20.
Leawere says this first match will not be a walk in the park for his boys with New Zealand certain to be chasing a fifth straight Oceania U20 Championship title.
He says on paper the Kiwi outfit would be considered the more experienced, with a side that is filled with Mitre 10 Cup players as well as a couple of Super Rugby squad members and the Fijian Under 20 is comprised mostly of development pathway program players.
Leawere says the international experience gained by a number of the squad members through the World Rugby Pacific Challenge and Fijian Warriors tournament will be invaluable to the Fijian side against their first opponents.
Leawere believes while the New Zealand boys might put the Fijians under pressure, their level of intensity will be the key as they defend and keep the play out of their 22 and playing mature territorial rugby as much as possible.
He says possession should be a key factor in their game to hinder their opportunities and apply early pressure.
The Vodafone Fijian Under20 will take on New Zealand this Friday at 7pm at the Gold Coast in Australia.
