Springbok Sevens coach Neil Powell

Springbok Sevens coach Neil Powell has admitted that he will have to make some tough choices when announcing his 12 players for the New Zealand and Las Vegas Sevens.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Powell said despite the absence of Cheslin Kolbe who has joined the Stormers for Super Rugby they still have a strong group of players to choose from.

Powell who guided his country to their first Sevens gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last season was pleased with the commitment showed in training since the squad assembled in the last two weeks.

He said they are looking to improve on reducing the many penalties they conceded in Port Elizabeth and keeping their focus on their discipline.

Kyle Brown, the regular team captain, was back at training after enjoying a day off following his wedding.

The Blitzboks are pooled with France, Japan and the USA at the New Zealand 7's which will be held next Friday and Saturday.

South Africa are currently leading the HSBC Sevens Series with 59 points, Fiji is second with 51, New Zealand with 47 while Australia has 46.

The top four teams on the final World Series table will qualify directly for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
