Crusaders, flanker and one of the most consistent performers, Matt Todd maybe one of the unluckiest to miss out on the All Blacks squad to take on France next month.
Todd, seems to have fallen victim to the selectors' preference for blindside and No.8 cover.
Coach Steve Hansen, says someone like Matt Todd, is a little unlucky, because historically, they have only taken two openside flankers at this time of year.
He adds that because they are playing at home, they felt like they would continue with that process, and try to grow the number of other players that can play six and eight for them.
With 14 tries in 10 Super Rugby matches for the Hurricanes this season, winger Ben Lam was another knocking loudly on the selection door, only to go unheeded.
Hansen admitted Lam went close though, adding they have gone with Waisake Naholo and Reiko Ioane who are their big wingers.
Hansen says Ben Smith can play on the wing pretty handily, and then they looked and thought 'do they want another big guy or someone who can bring them something different?'
Hansen says Nehe Milner‑Skudder does that.
