Julia Timi has won Fiji’s first gold medal on day three of competition at the 2016 Oceania Weightlifting Championship.
Timi won gold in the Women’s 63kg Junior category.
She lifted a total of 170kg to beat Australia’s Charrae Myers and New Zealand’s Anna McPherson who won silver and bronze respectively.
Timi said she was inspired by her younger brother, Sitiveni Timi who won gold in the Men’s 53kg Junior category.
This is Fiji’s sixth gold at the competition.
Meanwhile, Apolonia Vaivai and Eileen Cikanamata are the favorites to win gold in the 69kg Women's event in Oceania Weightlifting Championship today.
The next event will be the Men’s 69kg which will feature William Bucknell and Emosi Tabuasuka from Fiji.
The final event today will be the Men’s 77kg at 5:30pm.
Fiji's Timothy Vakuruivalu, Charlie Lolohea and Patrick Veidrayaki will take part in this event.
The Oceania Weightlifting Championship continues at the Vodafone Arena.
