The Chiefs will dig deep into their halfback depth for their Super Rugby match against the Sunwolves in Hamilton on Saturday night.
Coach Dave Rennie has declared they were going to rest Tawera Kerr‑Barlow even if he recovers from his concussion.
Kerr‑Barlow did not return for the second half of the ugly 16‑7 win over the Western Force in Perth last Saturday after taking a knock to the head, then his replacement, Finlay Christie, was on Monday handed a three‑week suspension for stamping.
Brad Weber was the franchise's other originally contracted No 9, and with him out for the season with a leg injury, it will see his replacement in the squad 20‑year‑old Jonathan Taumateine to start this weekend.
The Chiefs will take on the Sunwolves at 7.35pm Saturday.
