Chiefs coach Dave Rennie believes new Chiefs recruit Setareki Tamanivalu has the ability to explode on to the Super Rugby scene next year in the same way Malakai Fekitoa did this year.
The newly crowned ITM Cup player of the year, Tamanivalu will have his first crack at Super Rugby in next year but will have to work hard to earn a spot in the Chiefs loaded midfield.
The 22-year-old’s fine form he showed for Taranaki could have him hitting the Super Rugby scene in a similar fashion to All Blacks side.
Rennie said that the former Lelean Memorial School student was phenomenal in the ITM Cup with his footwork, power, his fend, his ability to keep the ball alive, and high quality decision making to offload and created a lot of tries.
The path to the first team will be tough for Tamanivalu, with several established players.
