A Fiji-born rugby player has admitted attempting to rape a woman during a night out after a match in Gisborne, New Zealand.
25-year-old Mid Canterbury player Kolinio Yabia Tamanitoakula pleaded guilty yesterday to a charge of assault with intent to commit sexual violation.
The attack on the woman happened in the Gisborne Central Business District at about 4am on October 16th last year.
He was arrested shortly after the incident and had been on bail while the case has progressed through the court.
Tamanitoakula who was a centre for the Celtic rugby club, appeared via video link from Timaru before Judge Warren Cathcart in the Gisborne District Court.
He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody for sentencing in June.
